In three years with the Eagles, Smith only managed to get four sacks. It is safe to say he did not live up to his potential.
The move to release Smith makes sense for both parties.
On the Eagles end, not only did he not produce on the field, but in a couple of days the Eagles were due to pay Smith a bonus. Now, that money is saved and Smith is off the books and off the team.
And, on Smith’s end, he gets the chance to try out for another team at the beginning of camp, a nice move by the Eagles.
