Torrey Smith on Rasul Douglas: “He’s gonna be good, like really good.”

5 June 2017 Eagles News

Anytime you look at the Eagles cornerback depth and the lack of experience amongst the group, you’re just a little concerned. However, WR Torrey Smith’s quote below should make you feel a tad better from a “future of the cornerback” standpoint.

“He’s gonna be good, like really good. And I think it’s gonna be quicker than a lot people think.”

You hear players praise other players all the time, but this quote kind of makes you feel Douglas is at least on the right track, especially, if you pair the above quote from Smith with the quote from Troy Vincent below.

Just a couple of days ago, on the Eagle Eye in the Sky podcast, former Eagles-great-CB Troy Vincent mentioned to Fran Duffy that Douglas looked solid in practice and “moves well, He’s a big, long kid; Reminds me a little bit of Bobby Taylor. Probably a little bit better quickness. He looked smooth.”

The 6-foot-2, 209-pound Douglas still has his work cut out for him, although it looks like he’s learning on the job and getting much needed first-hand experience. The West Virginia prospect did showcase his ball skills last season, leading the nation in interceptions with 8 in 2016. Douglas has flashed that same kind of ability in OTAs with his share of pass break-ups already in practice.

While Patrick Robinson and Jalen Mills will probably hold down the spots on the outide for now, Douglas has a shot to work his way into a starting position if he continues to keep shining.
