23 May 2017 Eagles News
Philadelphia PA: As NFL Teams begin to open up their organized team activities (OTA), the Philadelphia Eagles opened their OTA on Tuesday and Head Coach Doug Pederson was guest on 94.1 WIP and spoke to Angelo Cataldi and WIP Morning show and they talked about a series of Topics
Pederson was first asked about the offseason, Pederson said “The offseason is Howie and Joe Douglas, it is their regular season, they are a little more out front than I am and the coaches, I am right there with them in the mix”
what they have done in the offseason “I’m excited. We acquired veteran guys that could help us win games, build our roster, and give us depth.”
About New RB Lagarette Blount:
“He is a tremendous talent, big back, Great size, he was 1,000 yard rusher with 18 touchdowns, that is what you got to have when you are down in the red zone, the ability to pound it and score touchdowns that way, he was a battering ram that helped the patriots win the super bowl and now he come and just catch him up, work with Duce and frank Reich and get him caught up with the offense, mix him in with Sproles, Smallwood and see how things playout with him, I like his size, like having that big back, We are excited to get him working and see him win us games”
On going for it on 4th down:
“It will play into the mindset more going forward in those situations, You have to stay smart make good decisions there as a coach & play caller, it can definitely help with 3rd & 1 and 4th & 1 giving him the ball and pile it in there, We are going to stay aggressive on offence and defense”
About the New WR for QB Carson Wentz:
“The Biggest thing was to give a couple veteran guys that can help our group as we have a very young group, with the addition of Alshon, Torrey and their veteran presence, the way how they practice, it’s a comfort level for a young QB to have those types of guys on the perimeter that you can trust & you know where they are going to be, The addition of WR Coach Mike Groh, he has been working hard and great with the guys getting them ready to play, definitely a confidence level with a QB entering 2nd year”
Wentz Entering Year 2:
“I tell everyone that I am excited that he played his rookie season instead of sitting and having played 16 games was a huge benefit and grow the leadership ability on the football field and the dialog with players and knowing the offence and knowing the plays and understanding why they are called and just develop always staying aggressive and strength and heading into 2nd year playing 16 games” The Pederson would say that he is “very convinced” that Wentz is going to be a special player.
About the Defense/Secondary, Pederson said “Patrick Robinson, Rasul Douglas, Jalen Mills at CB, Ron Brooks at nickel, Jenkins at Safety. Pederson would go on to say that “Jalen Mills is going to be much better in his second year”
Regarding CB Sidney Jones “I would compared Sidney Jones to Marcus Peters & also Not putting any timetable on Sidney, we understand his injury, We are not going to rush him back and make sure that he is 100% before we put him on the field, We are going to wait and see how he rehab goes before we make any decision”
About entering year 2 as Head Coach
“Nothing is easy in this level, you learn from past experience, learning from the good and bad and help our team win football games, I have learned a lot this offseason and watch what we did. I think Pressure is what you put on yourself, I trust our players and work hard and put a crystal ball on how any games you win”
Final Question that Pederson was asked If they are a Playoff Team???
“I don’t have a crystal ball. Injuries play a part in that. Takeaways, giveaways. We attack this thing one day at a time.”
