Is Eagles CB C.J Smith in for a bigger year? One Eagles player thinks so

1 May 2017 Eagles News

2016 was a quite the journey for Eagles cornerback C.J Smith. Now, in 2017, Smith is in for a bigger role with the team.

Smith, a teammate of Carson Wentz at North Dakota St., was signed as an undrafted free agent this past season. He impressed in training camp and earned his spot on the practice squad.

From the practice squad, Smith worked hard everyday and when Lane Johnson was suspended, Smith took his spot on the 53-man roster.

Although he did not see a lot of game action at corner, he got acclimated at the position. Smith ended the season very comfortable playing outside cornerback.

Now, with the cornerback position open for competition this upcoming season, Smith is looking to take his opportunity.

And he even has the backing from star safety Malcolm Jenkins.

Honeslty, even though the Eagles added two cornerback in the draft (Sidney Jones and Rasul Douglas) the position is completely open.

If Smith doesn’t win a starting spot this offseason, he definitely can earn a higher position on the depth chart. Remember this is everyone’s second year in the system. It is a young group, Smith is just as knowledgeable in the system as any other corner.

Training camp is far away, but do not count Smith out. With a position as open as the Eagles cornerback position, anything can happen.
