Eagles mock draft roundup: Eagles get cornerback help and a defensive end

14 March 2017 DRAFT Eagles News

With the NFL draft a little over a month away, mock drafts are starting to pour out. Here are the results from the recent mock drafts floating around the internet.

NFL.com’s Daniel Jeremiah has the Eagles selecting LSU CB Tre’Davious White with the 14th pick.

“The Eagles upgraded the receiver spot in free agency, and now they need to address the cornerback position in the draft.”

Although you may not have heard too much about White, trust me, you will start hearing his name a lot. He is a player that is being undervalued by many.

Eagles VP of player personnel, Joe Douglas praised White during the Senior Bowl. That is significant because Douglas will be the one who sets the Eagles’ draft board.

CBSSports’ Rob Rang has the Eagles taking Alabama CB Marlon Humphrey.

” With last year’s starting cornerbacks (Leodis McKelvin and Nolan Carroll) playing elsewhere in 2017, the Eagles will be looking hard at this position in free agency and the draft. Humphrey is an NFL legacy player with a rare combination of size (6-0, 197 pounds) and speed (4.41), who at just 20-years old appears to be just scratching the surface of his potential.”

It is clear the Eagles need to address the CB position during the draft. Humphrey is said to be a day one starter. With the recent Sidney Jones, injury, Humphrey might just be the best CB prospect in the draft.

Humphrey has a pre-draft visit with the Eagles set for Tuesday.

PFF.com’s Steve Palazzolo has the Eagles upgrading their pass rush, taking Stanford pass-rusher Solomon Thomas

“Continuing to move up draft boards after a strong combine, Thomas will fit well in Philadelphia where he can use his outstanding run-stopping ability at defensive end before kicking inside to rush the passer. Thomas was the best run defender in college football last season, finishing at 92.0 overall and improving as a pass-rusher to rank seventh among the nation’s interior defensive linemen, at 86.5.”

With the recent release of Connor Barwin, the Eagles have a hole at defensive end. More importantly, the Eagles need to address the pass rush as a whole. Thomas is a player who can come in and get to the QB right away.

The question is, is he a fit? I think Thomas is more of a 3-4 edge rusher, but he can transition to a defensive end.
