Eagles GM Howie Roseman lays out the off season plan

Today, Eagles General Manager Howie Roseman spoke to the media at the NFL combine. He gave some great insight into the Eagles’ off season plans.
First up on the off season checklist is free agency. Eagles fans have salivated over the ideas of having the like of Alshon Jeffery, Stephon Gilmore, and others on their roster come September. The Eagles have big needs at the wide receiver and corner back position. However, the Eagles seem hesitant to spend big money during free agency.
Howie Roseman: “By definition, free agency is an overpayment.” Also says there aren’t as many good players in FA anymore.

He mentioned how the Eagles will not overpay for free agents, which makes sense considering the cap space they are working with. Rather, he wants the Eagles to play it smart and get players who will be able to stay with the Eagles for the long term.
Roseman again pushing the same message — the key is signing guys who can be here for years to come, can grow with Wentz #Eagles

One of the biggest keys this off season is building around Carson Wentz.
Roseman says having Wentz on the roster changes everything. #Eagles

As you can see, the Eagles want to make sure they develop Wentz. It is important to give him the weapons, you do not want to set him back. The Eagles know that and will take the right measures to help him this off season.
The next phase of the off season is the NFL draft. Many people were predicting the Eagles would take a corner back, wide receiver and running back with their first pick. However, the Eagles are going in a different direction.
Roseman: We're not going to take a player or a certain position in the draft just because of need. We need to get the best players.

The Eagles are going to be taking the best player available on their board when their name is called and they are on the clock. In this stage of their rebuild, this is probably their best draft strategy.
