Eagles mock draft roundup: Corey Davis falls to the Eagles, Wentz gets a weapon
20 February 2017 DRAFT Eagles News
It seems the latest mock drafts are suggesting the Eagles will give Carson Wentz a new wide receiver with their first round pick. The latest mock draft, done by Rob Rang of CBSSports.com, has the Eagles taking Western Michigan wide receiver Corey Davis with the 15th pick in the draft.
“Despite plenty of draft picks invested in the position, the Eagles lack a go-to target in the passing game to aid the development of Carson Wentz. Starring in the MAC rather than a Power 5 conference, Davis does not earn the attention he deserves but he’s a polished route-runner with an ideal combination of size (6-3, 213) with 4.4 speed.”
Many experts believe Davis is the best receiver in the draft. It is unknown if Davis will fall to the Eagles, but if he does, he would be a great pick.
Davis has outstanding route running, great run after the catch ability, and sure hands. He is a complete receiver. At Western Michigan, he caught 235 passes for 3,785 yards and 33 touchdowns. Last season alone, Davis caught 97 passes for 1,500 yards and an astonishing 19 touchdowns.
There is no doubt wide receiver is a position of need for the Eagles. They need to sort it out if they want Wentz to have success. Drafting Davis would definitely be a big move for the team and Wentz. However, if the Eagles go big in free agency and sign a receiver or two, I do not think Davis would be the pick.
