Mayock lists CB Sidney Jones as his Top CB

17 February 2017 DRAFT Eagles News

NFL Media draft analyst, Mike Mayock, recently named Washington CB Sidney Jones as his top cornerback prospect for the 2017 draft.

While Mayock usually leaves no explanation to his list, it’s interesting to see that Jones leads the pack on his board.

The CB draft class is super deep and there are a couple of players that you could argue that could hold down the No. 1 spot. They always say, “beauty is in the eye of the beholder.” Depending on your style of defense, there are many flavors in this draft: OSU’s Marcus Lattimore, Florida’s Teez Tabor, Alabama’s Marlon Humprhey and Sidney Jones could all be someones’ “top corner.”

What I love about Jones is that he shows a ton of athleticism, awareness, and ball skills when the ball is in the air. The Washington prospect does a great job in press and in zone, and also holds down the fort against the run. To me, Jones is a polished prospect with room to grow as a pro. Moving forward, at 6-foot, 180-pounds, Jones could add some bulk to his frame, though.

Most importantly, the Eagles need a plug-and-play starter and Jones would be a great piece to build off, as the Eagles begin to rebuild the corner position. If the Eagles were to draft a corner in the first–with Lattimore most likely off the board–I would definitely feel comfortable with Jones being the Eagles first selection.
