Duce Staley will call plays during East-West Shrine Game

18 January 2017 DRAFT Eagles News

If you needed one reason to tune into the East-West Shrine game, let it be long time Eagles’ fan favorite, Duce Staley.

The Eagles RB coach, has been selected to be the offensive coordinator for the East team, which makes it the perfect opportunity for Staley to gain valuable experience.

“Very excited, very excited. It’s a good opportunity for me to be in that role among some guys who I know,” Staley said. “I’ll be able to learn a lot as far as what offensive coordinators go through on gameday, the week leading up to the game.

You can talk about being in those shoes, but you don’t know it until you are. It’s something that you figure out along the way, but once again, it’s football. You take the good and the bad, you learn from it and move on.”

Over the last 7 years, Duce Staley has been on the grind coaching for the Eagles. Staley started off his coaching career as a coaching intern, then onto special teams quality control, before being hired as the Eagles RB coach in 2013. Originally, the former Eagles running back was interviewed to be the head coach, before the Eagles hired Doug Pederson.

Staley won’t be alone during East-Shrine week, as he’ll be joined by assistant secondary/defensive quality control coach Dino Vasso, who will be the East’s DB coach. Assistant quarterbacks/offensive quality control coach, Press Taylor, is the East’s QB coach.

The East-West Shrine game will take place on Saturday, January 21, 3 p.m., on NFL Network.
