Wendell Smallwood will be the Eagles lead back tomorrow

27 November 2016 Eagles News

After suffering an injury versus the Seattle Seahawks, Eagles running back Ryan Mathews will be out this Monday versus the Packers. To carry the load, the Eagles will look to rookie Wendell Smallwood.

The rookie running back has racked up 253 yards on 57 carries. He has also found the end zone one time. Smallwood has seen limited action this season for the Eagles. However, recently, he has seen an increased workload. The last two weeks he has averaged 13 carries a game.

With Mathews out and a banged up Darren Sproles, the Eagles will lead on Smallwood tomorrow versus the Packers.

Smallwood brings a lot to the table for the Eagles. Not only is he a good runner of the football, he is very effective in the passing game too. The Packers has a terrible passing defense, the Eagles can also utilize Smallwood in the passing game. Last week versus the Seahawks, he was targeted five times by Carson Wentz, he caught four of those balls.

However, Green Bay does come into this game with the sixth best rushing defense in the league. Green Bay will be dealt a big blow, two of their starting linebackers are ruled out. This might help the Eagles a little in the run game.

Every time Smallwood has been given a big workload, he has delivered for the Eagles. When carrying the ball more than ten times a game, Smallwood averages 65 yards rushing.

Altogether, Smallwood brings a diverse and explosive attack to the Eagles offense. He runs like a truck, and then can gash you for a big play in the passing game.

In my opinion, Smallwood gives the Eagles the best chance at having a stable run game. I expect him to have a huge game versus the Packers. It is exciting to see Smallwood in the lead back role.
