Eagles: Three key match ups vs. Falcons

13 November 2016 Eagles News

The number one team in the NFC South comes to town today. They might be the best offensive team, but defensively, they are vulnerable. Here are three matchups the Eagles can expose.

QB Carson Wentz vs. Falcons Defense

The Falcons rank 31st in the NFL in pass defense. They have given up 2609 yards and 23 touchdowns this seasons to opposing quarterbacks in nine games. On average, the Falcons concede 290 yards and about three touchdowns a game to opposing quarterbacks. The Eagles need to get Carson Wentz going early in this game. If so, he will have no problem picking apart this very shaky Falcons secondary.

WR Jordan Matthews vs. CB Brian Poole

Matthews gets a shot to go against a undrafted free agent in week ten. Against DRC last week, Matthews hauled in six receptions for 88 yards. The week before, Matthews hauled in 11 receptions for 65 yards and one touchdown. Now, imagine what he will do versus an inexperienced cornerback. Mind you, Matthews has a significant height advantage too. We are looking at a very good matchup for the Eagles. If they are smart, this is one they need to expose.

TE Zach Ertz vs. Deion Jones

Tight ends have had some success versus the Falcons. Greg Olsen, Coby Fleener, and Jimmy Graham are some of the tight ends who torched the Falcons. When it comes to defending  tight ends, the Falcons are vulnerable. Zach Ertz is looking like a serious member of the offense now. Last week he caught a season-high eight receptions for a season-high 97 yards. If the Eagles play the matchup correctly, he will have another big day.
