Kelce: My performance has been “poor”

23 September 2016 Eagles News

The Inquirer Daily News’ Jeff McClane notes that C Jason Kecle has described his performance as “poor” so far this season.

If you’ve been watching closely this year, you might have seen the veteran center getting pushed around like a rag doll on some plays. The undersized center has had a tough go against DTs, such as Browns’ Danny Shelton and Bears’ Eddie Goldman the last two games.

“I think I’ve got to step it up,” Kelce told the Inquirer Daily News. “I’ve got to get back to the fundamentals and techniques that have brought me to this point in my career.”

The problem has not only been the physical aspect, but the mental side of things as well. The veteran center, was called for a holding penalty and a face mask penalty(which was declined) in the Birds win over Chicago on Monday night.

While, the critics have been harsh on Kelce, offensive coordinator Frank Reich was the opposite, describing Kelce as “brilliant in pass protection, calls and schemes.”

The 28-year-old is off to another slow start this season, but gets a great opportunity to rebound versus the Steelers on Sunday. Kelce will go up against the 6-foot-1, 309-pound, Javon Hargreave, who is a lot lighter than Shelton and Goldman.
