WR Shelton Gibson is starting to turn it on in camp

They say pressure busts pipes and in Shelton Gibson’s case, the pressure to perform may have gotten the best of him earlier on in camp.
Fast forward to today, the rookie prospect out of West Virginia has put together some quality practices, from catching the ball cleanly, to making splash plays, Gibson has done exactly what he’s supposed to be doing out there.
When I got to see him at the Eagles open practice two weeks ago, he displayed solid hands and was playing fast out on the field. Everything that I heard about the drops throughout camp, the rookie wideout erased what was written about him in front of the home crowd.

Not to outdo himself, Gibson followed up with another big play.

With the idea of the Eagles keeping 6 wideouts and the release of Jordan Matthews, things are looking good for Gibson’s chances. Last week, in the preseason opener, Gibson did not exactly stand out, hauling in 2 receptions for 12 yards. On a positive note he did haul in a catch to convert a first down on 3rd and 2. Unfortunately, Bryce Treggs –his competition– took some of the spotlight, hauling in 7 receptions for 91 yards. However, Gibson missed a great opportunity on a long ball between two defenders. The catch would have been a highlight-reel-worthy catch for someone who needed to standout.
Tough situation, but Shelton Gibson def needed a splash play on his resume. Glad he didnt get knocked out, tho. pic.twitter.com/mVAIKonZhx

#Eagles rookie Shelton Gibson has come on after a slow start. Seems to be gaining confidence as he becomes more familiar w/ Reich's offense.

The rookie wideout has built on his recent success and could make things easier on himself with a breakout performance against the Bills. With Marcus Johnson breakout camp slowed down –due to a hamstring injury– Gibson will definitely have to outplay Bryce Treggs to prove his worth for the 53-man roster.
