Eagles Promote WR Robert Davis from Practice Squad; Place WR Alshon Jeffery on IR; Sign WR Deontay Burnett to Practice Squad

According to the Philadelphia Eagles website, they have promoted WR Robert Davis from the practice squad and placed WR Alshon Jeffery on IR. They have also signed WR Deontay Burnett to fill out the practice squad.

Davis was a sixth-round pick by the Washington Redskins in 2017 out of Georgia State. He finished his four-year collegiate career with 222 catches for 3,391 yards and 17 touchdowns. He averaged 15.3 YPC.

He’s a bigger guy at 6’3″ 210 lbs. but he’s also pretty fast for his size. He ran a 4.44 40-yard dash at the ’17 Combine.

During training camp, August 13, 2018, Davis suffered a broken tibia and a torn LCL. It kept him out the entire 2018 season.

Davis signed to the Eagles practice squad October 7th 2019. With a couple of months to learn the system, a plethora of injuries to the Eagles receiving core and a clean bill of health, he could actually be a big contributor come Sunday. He fits the mold of Alshon and with the trend the Eagles have going, the practice squad is where the talent lies. He’s also an ex-Redskin, who the Eagles play Sunday, so maybe some of the familiarity will help his case.

According to NFL Insider Ian Rapoport, Alshon Jeffery’s is dealing with a Lisfranc injury and that is why he has been placed on IR.

He was carted off on Monday against the Giants, after he suffered a non-contact injury to his aforementioned foot.

He was dealing with nagging injuries all season and wasn’t very productive. He had 43 catches, 490 yards, and four touchdowns on the year. His season is now over.

The Eagles also announced that they have signed WR Deontay Burnett to the practice squad. Bringing the total back to ten players.

Burnett is 6′ 186 lbs. He was originally an undrafted signing by the Tennessee Titans in 2018.

Davis is out of USC, where he spent three years. He totaled 152 catches for 1897 yards and 16 TDs. He averaged 12.5 YPC.

He spent time on the Titans and the San Francisco 49ers practice squads. He was on the active roster for the New York Jets. He has ten catches for 143 yards in his NFL career.

The Eagles now have three healthy receivers on the active roster in JJ Arcega-Whiteside, Greg Ward and Robert Davis.

Nelson Agholor’s status for Sunday is unclear, as he is dealing with a kneee injury that has been nagging him since Week 6 against the Vikings.

The Eagles also now have three receivers on their practice squad in Marken Michel, Marcus Green and newly acquired Deontay Burnett. It all depends on Agholor’s health but I wouldn’t be surprised to see one of these guys brought up to the active roster. Especially, Marken Michel, whose speed could really benefit this offense.
