Kamu Grugier-Hill’s snap count to increase

30 September 2019 Uncategorized

According to Dave Zangaro of NBC Sports Philadelphia, “Eagles LB coach Ken Flajole said they’ll continue to ramp up work for Kamu Grugier-Hill as he comes back from his knee injury. Pitch count will grow each week.”

Grugier-Hill was used very sparingly last week. The Eagles plan was to ease him back into his key role slowly, as to not re-aggravate his injury. They did exactly that against the Packers as he was in for only 13 snaps, which was 16% of our defensive plays.

While Kamu has been recovering Nigel Bradham has played almost every snap at LB. That isn’t too far off from his usual usage even if Kamu were healthy. The big change has been Zach Brown. He has found himself playing in a lot more than just his usual run situations. I spoke with Adam Caplan before the season, after Kamu’s injury, about how I thought Brown would be used in the exact role he’s in. He thought with his skill set that he wouldn’t even be used in said role. That’s how out of place Brown has been… I think he has fared a lot better than most people thought he would but as we can all see, we need Kamu to reclaim his role! Nate Gerry has also been scattered in at times. He’s also no Grugier-Hill.

Kamu’s presence is much needed as our defense is allowing over 385 yards per game and over 26 points per game. Kamu is a Team Captain and adds a talented veteran presence on defense and special teams. I’m really not sure we’ll see him playing special teams too much right away though. After watching that kick return for a TD against Detroit and how atrocious our defense has played, his presence anywhere should bring a sense of relief to Eagles fan!
