21 Days Until Kickoff

The tradition and rich history of the Philadelphia Eagles are represented with one color: Green. When Birds fans think of Kelly Green, the days of Buddy Ryan and the Gang Green defense immediately come to mind. Reggie White, Jerome Brown, Seth Joyner, and Wes Hopkins put fear in the hearts of offenses all over the NFL. Their ruthless moniker of punishing opposing QBs put the entire league on notice. Fear leads to bad decisions on the football field and there was plenty of that going around Veterans Stadium on Sundays. The player on the field who turned that chaos into execution was one of the best cornerbacks to play the game. No. 21 Eric Allen.
Eric Allen was dangerous. A true lockdown corner who could capitalize on one bad decision and take it to the house. The former second-round pick never had a season with fewer than three interceptions during his time in Philadelphia. He was a game-changer. The sole owner of the Eagles franchise record of 5 interception returns for touchdowns. In two separate seasons, he ran back three or more interceptions for touchdowns. A feat nobody in the history of the NFL has accomplished. Another No.21, Deion Sanders, knows exactly how special of a player Allen is and is pushing for Eric Allen to be inducted into the NFL Hall of Fame.
Eric Allen was a complete corner and deserves to be in Canton. A craftsman who’s hard work ensured his game was void of weaknesses. Allen started 110 out of 111 games with Eagles and was a vital component to one of the most ferocious defenses every assembled. I can’t guarantee he will ever get the gold jacket, but I can assure you the best fan base in the NFL will never forget his greatness. #FlyEaglesFly
