Brandon Brooks diagnosed with anxiety condition
14 December 2016 Eagles News
Brandon Brooks mysteriously missed two of the last three games for the Eagles with an illness. At the time, we were all baffled as to what was going on. Today, we found out what exactly is going on with Brooks.
Brooks has been diagnosed with an anxiety condition. Here is what Brooks had to say about it. “What I mean by anxiety condition, not nervousness or fear of the game, I have like an obsession with the game. “It’s an unhealthy obsession right now, and I’m working with team doctors and things to get everything straightened out and getting the help that I needed.”
Brooks had a similar problem when he was with the Houston Texans, but he assumed it was some type of stomach ulcer. Now after a full diagnosis, Brooks can finally manage his problem. “I think I’ll come out better from this, come out a better person.”
Honestly, it is a very situation. Brooks was so obsessed with football and being perfect that he physically made himself sick. So sick that he could not play in the game. It is crazy what anxiety can do.
Trust me, I know too. In my young lifetime, I have struggled a lot with anxiety. It is something I am not proud of, but it is something I have dealt with and overcame. It has been over a year since my last bad attack.
Last fall, I had a massive anxiety related panic attack. It shut me down for weeks. I was creating situations in my head that did not exist. At one point, I convinced myself I was fatally sick. I tricked my mind into thinking and feeling things that did not exist.
The mind is a very powerful thing. If you can conquer your mind, you can do anything. This goes with anything. You have to control your mind because sometimes it does hold you back in life.
With that being said, Brooks is in a dark place right now. There is no joking around with this. It takes a lot of guts to come out and say this to the public. I commend Brooks on doing so. The best thing he can do now if take a breather and get out of that dark place. Football is second and his own health is first.
Here is to hoping Brooks can conquer his anxiety and come back even stronger. I am pulling for him.
