Ertz still not cleared to return to practice

23 September 2016 Eagles News

As we thought earlier last week, the likelihood of Ertz playing is starting to look slimmer this week against the Pittsburgh Steelers.

“There’s a lot of stuff behind that rib,” Ertz said when asked about the risk of playing with the displaced rib. “If it was a lower rib where the pain is now, I’d easily be able to play last week.”

Since the displaced rib is under his shoulder, the Eagles medical staff is concerned about the placement of his rib and it being near his heart.

The third-year TE is not in any discomfort and is still able to partake in physical activities, such as lifting weights. However, they’re worried about him making contact, which is why hasn’t been cleared. While Pederson hinting at this being a game-time call, look for the Birds to rely on Brent Celek and Trey Burton, with Burton taking another big role in the offense in Ertz absence.
