Could Wentz add an extra wrinkle to the run game?

23 September 2016 Eagles News

Although the focus has been on protecting Wentz from bodily harm these days, offensive coordinator Frank Reich hinted that his young QB could more involved in the run game down the road.

When Reich was asked if Wentz would be more involved in the running game:

“I think there has been a little bit of thought into not putting him in that position too much too early. I would envision as the season goes on that that is brought more and more into it, but you’re just starting out and you want to make sure he gets the message, which he needs to prove that he has gotten the message that we can give him that responsibility and he can protect himself. And he was coming off an injury. We knew he was fine, but as a coach there’s still that little bit in the back of your mind, let’s just play it safe for a week or two until we know for sure.”

While it’s still very early in the season, the Birds could be saving some of their tricks up their sleeve. Let’s not forget that Pederson has worked with mobile QB Alex Smith and with consultant Chris Ault, whose been called the “father of the Pistol offense.” It’s safe to say, that Ault has taught Pederson everything he knows about the read-option when he was with the Chiefs, and some form of the Pistol could make its way in the Eagles game plan soon.
