It’s time for Rasul Douglas to step up

6 November 2018 Eagles News Opinion

The Eagles have been dealing with secondary injuries all season, and now ESPN insider Mike Clay is reporting that Jalen Mills and Sidney Jones will miss the Sunday Night Football matchup against the Dallas Cowboys.

If this is true, one man (who has been begging for playing time) needs to step up. His name is Rasul Douglas.

Douglas has shown flashes in his minimal playing time, but the coaching staff never seemed to trust him unless there were injuries. Now, it’s looking like Douglas will have to have an important role in Week 10.

If the Eagles win this game, they’ll be 5-4 and possibly in first place. If Douglas can take advantage of this opportunity, he’ll gain the trust of the coaches and the fans, and he could possibly become a key part of the secondary down the stretch.

Douglas has been known for his ballhawk ability. He had a knack for getting interceptions in college, and on the one play he was in against the Falcons, he recorded an interception.

If Douglas can step up for the rest of the season, it could allow the Eagles to let Ronald Darby walk and roll with a Jalen Mills/Sidney Jones/Rasul Douglas secondary.

While that might be getting ahead of ourselves, Douglas playing well this week will allow the coaches to ease injured players back into the secondary knowing that Douglas can handle the role.
