Wentz, a healthy scratch for 2016?
18 July 2016 Eagles News
According to Eagles’ head coach Doug Pederson, his No.2 overall pick,Carson Wentz, would be a healthy scratch if the season were to start today.
At the current moment, the Eagles plan to roll with Sam Bradford as their starter for the season. After signing Bradford to a two year, $36 million dollar deal (22 Million guaranteed), look for the Eagles to let Bradford maximize his value for the 2016 season. The Birds also gave a three-year “player-friendly” deal to QB Chase Daniel for $21 million, with $12 million guaranteed. If need be, the Birds could also rely on Daniel, who is a capable back up that knows Doug Pederson’s system.
“Typically, the third quarterback is down,” Pederson said during a June interview. “It’s hard right now to look down the road, but if we had to play this week, Carson would be down. He’d be the third quarterback. He’d be deactivated. That’s probably the direction we’re heading, I would think is going that route. Obviously barring injury and, as you know, how this game is, but typically the third quarterback, whoever that is, is down on game day.”
While Bradford represents the present, it’s Daniel who is second string and current tutor of the Eagles’ future signal caller, in Carson Wentz. The Eagles plan to give it a shot to win the NFC east with Bradford under center, however, if the Birds are not playoff contenders towards the end of the season, look for Eagles brass to unleash the rookie.
